HIGHLIGHTS

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of these Toledo-area sophomores:

  • 90 teenagers, including members of high school sports teams and clubs, became trained in hands-only CPR.

  • The new location of Children’s Theater Workshop costume closet was overhauled and organized, including 500 costumes, 200 props, and 100 bins of hats.

  • 40 children experiencing neurodivergence played soccer and developed friendships in an environment that was safe, supportive, sensory-friendly, and fun. Students served as buddies to the players and assisted with special events, including a volunteer pizza party and holiday celebration.

  • Provided 50 people with a warm, nourishing meal during a Community Support Dinner put on by Love & Luggage.

  • Collected 1,000+ books, toys, snacks, and diapers for children under the care or supervision of Lucas County Children Services. In addition to hosting donation drives and awareness campaigns at their individual schools, students assembled snack packs and duffel bags containing personal hygiene and comfort care items.

  • Assisted with Metroparks Toledo’s reforestation efforts by removing 150 tree guards and 150 stakes from young trees.

  • Hosted collection drives for Mom’s House that resulted in more than 300 rolls of paper towel, 6600 utensils, 100 packages of baby food, 83 cans of fruits and vegetables, and packages of disposable paper plates and bowls.

  • Collected and sorted 25+ gallons of fishing debris with Partners for Clean Streams. Used fishing line will be recycled into items such as tackles boxes, park benches, and even fish habitats.

  • Supported Toledo GROWs during their their 21st annual Seed Swap. Students assisted 1,100 attendees who traded an estimated 20,000 seeds.

  • Helped clean and put away supplies following Water for Ishmael’s International Dinner and Culture Walk. Students assisted by packaging leftover food, washing dishes, clearing and cleaning tables, and putting away tables and chairs.

  • Assisted with tasks during Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser that raised over $23,000. Also collaborated with students from The University of Toledo while playing STEM-themed games with children during an Engineer Workshop hosted at Imagination Station.

“A key part of Youth Leadership Toledo is helping students discover how they can use their talents and passions to make a difference in the community. Through these projects, they gain insight into local organizations and the dedication it takes to bring their missions to life,” says Anna Toney, Executive Director of Leadership Toledo.
